THE STATEWIDE BATTLE OF THE CHEFS IS SET FOR THIS SUNDAY!  THE VENUE IS THE OLNEY FARMERS AND ARTISTS MARKET.  LET THE COMPETITION BEGIN!




WHAT ELSE IS AT THE MARKET?  Tomatoes, eggplant, radishes, onions, garlic, garlic scapes, ground beef, sausage, bacon, crepes, breakfast burritos, smoothies, pizza, shaved ices, Greek olive oil, olives, homemade scones, sweet and savory pies, homemade bread, peach bread pudding, peaches, blueberries, hydroponic lettuce, mushrooms, eggs, poultry, green beans, corn, blackberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, coffee,  non-alcoholic beverages, BBQ, homemade peanut butter, squash, potato salad, mac ‘n cheese, baked beans, gluten-free baked goods, stuffed cabbage, homemade pasta and lots more…

SPECIAL EVENT THIS SUNDAY: Fourteen chefs from around Maryland will be putting their culinary skills to the test. Prizes include a cash payout and Golden Ticket to the World Food Championships. Chefs, including our own Max Zelenkov, will be gathering their ingredients at the Market.  We’d like to thank our vendors for their generosity in helping to make the event a success.  Thanks to the Maryland Restaurant Association and the Agriculture Department for sponsoring the competition.

SPECIAL THANKS TO JAMES RICCIUTI FOR HIS PEACH OF PERFECTION CHEF’S DEMO:  Here’s his recipe:

Blueberry and Peach Panzanella Salad

Ingredients:
3 cups day old bread, cut into cubes and toasted
2 cups baby arugula or mixed greens
8 oz. fresh mozzarella, cut into cubes
4 ripe peaches, sliced
1 pint blueberries
1/4 cup red onions, sliced
1/2 cup whole basil leaves, torn
1/4 cup fresh flat leaf parsley, chopped
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
Salt and pepper

1.  Toss bread and olive oil together and let soak for about three minutes.
2.  Add the arugula, basil, parsley, fresh mozarrella, peaches, blueberries, red onion, vinegar to the bread and mix.
3.  Season with salt and pepper.

 NO DRIVING ON THE GRASS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. This is due to the major landscaping taking place.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

PARKING IS ALWAYS FREE! There are 2 main lots, one outside the professional buildings on 108; the other opposite the Thrift Shop on Prince Philip.

DONATIONS WELCOME!   Please consider a donation to our 501-C-3, Friends of the Olney Farmers Market.  The Market provides vouchers for fresh produce to those in need.  This season, we’ve given out more vouchers than ever before. It would be great to replenish our fund.  We also need funds to support our music program and our children's tent.
Checks can be mailed to PO Box 1787, Olney, MD 20830. We also accept donations at our Info tent.  You may also use the Donate button at the top of this newsletter.
