Plus, Personal Chef Nick is back with ideas for mouth-watering Springtime gatherings. KNIFE SHARPENING: Look for Gary (Sharper Than Ever) on-site, near the pedestrian walkway. SPRING SCHEDULE APRIL 26TH: One potato, two potato, three potato, four… Potato Day, part of Olney Days, is a big event at the Market, anyway you slice it. Bring your homemade potato dish to the Chef’s tent at 10:30am, and be prepared to be judged. Prizes will be awarded for top community potato creation and top potato vendor. See the list of participating vendors on our website, olneyfarmersmarket.com. We’ll also have Potato sack races and games for children throughout the day. And this just in…the Airpark SoccerPlex is getting in on the Potato Day action. Details in our next newsletter. Potato Day is part of Olney Days for the first time. MAY 10TH: MOTHER’S DAY AND GRAND REOPENING OF OUR SPRING MARKET This is the day our live music starts. It’ll be a special day for Moms. Snap up a Red Envelope at the Info booth or on our website (olneyfarmersmarket.com) before Mother’s Day. The cost is just $20, a donation to our non-profit. Don’t open the envelope until you return to the Market on Mother’s Day. Then, look for a manager to unlock your special surprise gift. Gifts range from fabulous handmade jewelry and pottery to gift cards, all worth more than $20. Special thanks to Nancy Wert for organizing the event. Thanks to our vendors for the gifts. MAY 10TH: The return of our Master Gardeners. SUNDAY MAY 30th: STRAWBERRY TASTING Judges include Allison Weiss, executive director of the Sandy Spring Museum and our own Hospital liaison, Katherine Farquhar. Join us for a sneak preview of the giant Strawberry Festival at the Museum. JUNE 14TH: SPRING KIDS IN BIZ DAY This is the day children can become vendors for a day. All items must be handmade or homemade. A Market lunch will be provided. Details on how to sign up coming soon. JUNE 26TH: SPRING MOVIE NIGHT Details coming soon. Late August: The call is out for talented teen musicians! We’re holding our first time ever Olney Farmers Market High School OPEN MIC DAY. Students from area high schools will perform 2 songs at the Market. Music teachers from area high schools are asked to choose 3 students to perform - individually. Students must provide their own instruments. A PA system and mics will be set up. VENDOR ALERT! A reminder that all vendors are required to have weights of at least 25 lbs per leg, no exceptions! In the event of strong winds, you will be asked to take down your tent. This is for everyone’s safety. Anyone who refuses to comply will be subject to termination. We just can’t take any chances. Thank you. SNAP: Yes, we take SNAP! Come to the Info booth for information. ATTENTION VENDORS! The Market is now full! No more applications accepted until after Mother’s Day. Starting next Sunday we’ll go to our Spring layout. This is different than the Mother’s Day layout, which will be unveiled later. Be sure to check in with a Manager before setting up. If you’re not scheduled to vend and want to see your Springtime spot, contact Janet to arrange a visit. FOOD SCRAPS: As part of a Montgomery County-sponsored pilot, Compost Cab will accept food scraps from our customers. Look for their tent in the rear of the Market. You may drop off: Fruit and Vegetable scraps Cooked Food Meat, fish bones Dairy (cheese and yogurt) Eggshells Bread & Grains Coffee Grounds & Tea STAY SAFE! PARKING IS ALWAYS FREE! During the regular season starting on May 10, vendors are asked to stay until1:10pm. There are 2 main lots, one outside the professional buildings on 108; the other opposite the Thrift Shop on Prince Philip. NO PETS PLEASE! DONATIONS WELCOME! Please consider a donation to our 501-C-3, Friends of the Olney Farmers Market. The Market provides vouchers for fresh produce to those in need. This season, we’ve given out more vouchers than ever before. It would be great to replenish our fund. We also need funds to support our music program and our children's tent. Checks can be mailed to PO Box 1787, Olney, MD 20830. We also accept donations at our Info tent. ***Customers: Please do NOT remove barricades at our entrances and exits. These are meant to keep all of us safe. In the event of dangerous weather conditions, we'll post our decision on whether to close on our website, olneyfarmersmarket.com and on Facebook. NO PETS! We ask that you leave your pets at home. We allow service animals only. Note to Vendors: Remember that every tent must have at least 25 pounds of weight pertent leg. Thank you for your cooperation.
