WELCOME TO THE GREAT POTATO BAKEOFF!  IF YOU THINK YOU’VE GOT THE PERFECT POTATO RECIPE, BRING IT TO THE MARKET THIS SUNDAY, AND LET THE COMPETITION BEGIN!  ALSO, A FREE GNOCCHI CLASS, PLUS POTATO INSPIRED ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN, INCLUDING SOCCER! THAT’S WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS SUNDAY.  NOW HERE ARE DETAILS!

FARMERS EXPECTED:  Westmoreland, Leedstown, Common Root (certified organic),  Manchester Mushrooms, Living Lettuce, M & M Plants, Dimitri Olive Oil, Apple Valley and Fairy Greens.

KNIFE SHARPENING:  Look for Gary (Sharper Than Ever) on-site, near the pedestrian walkway.

BICYCLE REPAIRS:  THREE POINT CYCLES will be opposite the thrift shop donations area.

ATTENTION VENDORS:  The Market is now full!  No more applications accepted until after Mother’s Day.  Be sure to check in with a Manager before setting up.  And no driving across the Market green without permission.  Also, don’t forget our Mother’s Day layout will be different than our Spring layout.  Your Mother’s day spot will be assigned soon.
 

THE GRAND POTATO BAKEOFF:   This Sunday, the Market is hosting Potato Day, part of Olney Days.  Bring your homemade potato dish to the Info tent at 10:30am, and be prepared to be judged.  The one and only Barbara Falcigno, Olney Days coordinator, will emcee.  Our own Personal Chef Nick and Market meteorologist Chris Laudicina (formerly of WUSA-TV) will be judges.  Prizes will be awarded for top community potato dish and top potato vendor.  See the list of participating vendors at olneyfarmersmarket.com.  The Airpark Soccer Plex is asking children to come ready for soccer.  We’ll also have potato sack races and a scavenger hunt.  Plus, cooking instructor Joe Baldini hosts a free cooking Gnocchi Class at 11am on the Market Green.  He’ll have a sign-up sheet for future Italian cooking classes.

HOLD THE DATES!

MAY 10TH:  MOTHER’S DAY AND GRAND REOPENING OF OUR SPRING MARKET
This is the day our live music starts.  It’ll be a special day for Moms.  Snap up a Red Envelope at the Info booth or on our website (olneyfarmersmarket.com) before Mother’s Day.  The cost is just $20, a donation to our non-profit.  Don’t open the envelope until you return to the Market on Mother’s Day.  Then, look for a manager to unlock your special surprise gift.  Gifts range from fabulous handmade jewelry and pottery to gift cards, all worth more than $20.  Special thanks to Nancy Wert, Robin Thomas and Nadine Wort for organizing the event.  Thanks to our vendors for the gifts.

MAY 10TH: The return of our Master Gardeners.

SUNDAY MAY  30th: STRAWBERRY TASTING
Judges include Allison Weiss, executive director of the Sandy Spring Museum and our own Medstar Montgomery Hospital liaison, Katherine Farquhar.  Join us for a sneak preview of the giant Strawberry Festival at the Museum. 
 
JUNE 14TH: SPRING KIDS IN BIZ DAY
This is the day children can become vendors for a day. It’s a chance for them to learn about good customer service and to count change.  All items must be handmade or homemade under adult supervision. JUNE 26TH: SPRING MOVIE NIGHT
Details coming soon.


Late August:  The call is out for talented teen musicians!  We’re holding our first time ever Olney Farmers Market High School OPEN MIC DAY.
Students from area high schools will perform 2 songs at the Market.  Music teachers from area high schools are asked to choose 3 students to perform - individually. Students must provide their own instruments.  A PA system and mics will be set up.  

VENDOR ALERT!   A reminder that all vendors are required to have weights of at least 25 lbs per leg, no exceptions!  In the event of strong winds, you will be asked to take down your tent.  This is for everyone’s safety.  Anyone who refuses to comply will be subject to termination.  We just can’t take any chances.  Thank you.

FOOD SCRAPS:  As part of a Montgomery County-sponsored pilot, Compost Cab will accept food scraps 
from our customers. 
Look for their tent in the rear of the Market. You may drop off:
  • Fruit and Vegetable scraps
  • Cooked Food
  • Meat, fish bones
  • Dairy (cheese and yogurt)
  • Eggshells
  • Bread & Grains
  • Coffee Grounds & Tea Leaves (remove all filters)

PARKING IS ALWAYS FREE!  During the regular season starting on May 10, vendors are asked to stay until1:10pm.  There are 2 main lots, one outside the professional buildings on 108; the other opposite the Thrift Shop on Prince Philip.
NO PETS PLEASE!

DONATIONS WELCOME!   Please consider a donation to our 501-C-3, Friends of the Olney Farmers Market.  The Market provides vouchers for fresh produce to those in need.  This season, we’ve given out more vouchers than ever before. It would be great to replenish our fund.  We also need funds to support our music program and our children's tent.
Checks can be mailed to PO Box 1787, Olney, MD 20830. We also accept donations at our Info tent.

THANK YOU!! ***Customers:  Please do NOT remove barricades at our entrances and exits.  These are meant to keep all of us safe.  
In the event of dangerous weather conditions, we'll post our decision on whether to close on our website, olneyfarmersmarket.com and on Facebook.
NO PETS!  We ask that you leave your pets at home.  We allow service animals only.
Note to Vendors:  Remember that every tent must have at least 25 pounds of weight per tent leg.  Thank you for your cooperation.
